What To Expect

Modern Adventures are designed to showcase the best of a destination, and promote community, sharing and celebration. We thoughtfully curate all elements for an immersive, diverse experience—always with some free time to relax and soak in the atmosphere.

The Bhutan Experience

Shimmering lakes, snow-capped Himalayan peaks as far as you can seeget ready for an unforgettable adventure in Bhutan, and experience first-hand why it’s one of the world’s great secrets. We'll visit monasteries and temples, experience the incredible Thimphu Festival, and trek some the iconic Druk Path together, over five of the 13 days we're together. Our trek is fully supported and led by experienced local guides. Our nights are spent camping in comfort, and equally at elegant hotels and lodges.

Activity Level: Moderate

This trek is accessible for most age levels who maintain good physical fitness and are prepared for the demands of hiking in remote mountainous areas. We’ll cover 4 to 8 miles a day (11 miles on our longest day), and conquer wind, rain and sunny skies—sometimes all in the same day. Your physical conditioning should start no later than two months prior to our trip departure. Your regimen should include walking or hiking in the boots you intend to wear (see Gear & Packing for more details).

How We Eat

Nearly all meals are provided, with the exception of dinner in Thimphu on Day 9.

On the trek, all meals and snacks are provided for you. We’ll be traveling with a fully staffed camp kitchen, including camp cooks who will prepare traditional Bhutanese and Indian dishes as well as more familiar Western foods. Bhutanese cuisine employs a lot of red rice buckwheat and maize. The diet also includes various proteins including chicken, yak meat, dried beef, pork and lamb.

Special Dietary Needs

Traveling with dietary restrictions or allergies can be a challenge, but we’re here to help. Prior to your departure, we’ll send you a questionnaire where you can inform us of any special dietary needs you have. Depending on the information you give us, we will work with our Bhutan partners to adjust menus and be aware of allergies and restrictions on our trip. We kindly request that any changes to our menu are based on need rather than preference, as we work very hard to curate an exceptional dining experience that is difficult to change.

Who's Going On This Trip?

Group travel is a wonderful way to meet new people and have shared experiences together. Our experiences are fun and inclusive. You can expect to be joined by a diverse group of people in terms of age, background and interests—including solo travelers, couples and friends traveling together. The common unifier of our guests is that they are curious, adventurous, and independent. This adventure is for travelers age 18 and above.

Traveling as a Group

We believe group travel is an intimate, empowering and fun way to learn about yourself and others. Like any good relationship, it thrives with respect. We ask that every guest honors the key times in a day to ensure everyone's experience is the absolute best is can be. This is everyone's adventure!

This adventure will be limited to no more than 12 fellow adventurers and your Modern Adventure team. We will be joined by expert expedition guides, each highly qualified. They will be with us for the entirety of the adventure, along with porters to help carry the group's gear.
